Kranj - sejemsko mesto

KRANJ – SEJEMSKO MESTO

Kasneje kranjski sejem prerasel v gorenjskega in je imel velik ugled. Trgovali so na tedenskih in dveh letnih sejmih. Pomadanski je bil Markov, jesenski pa Tilnov. V 17. stoletju so dobili še tretji sejem namenjen prodaji živine.

V Kranju so trgovali z žitom, železom in obrniškimi izdelki.

KRANJ – THE TOWN OF FAIRS

Kranj was known as the town of fairs during centuries. There were some origins of simple trading in the 10th century when people during religious feasts exchanged goods from the town and surroundings. Later The Kranj Fair became The Gorenjska Fair an it was very well known. They traded weekly and twice a year. In spring it was Marko’s Fair, in autumn Tilen’s Fair. In the 17th century there was also a fair where they traded with stock.

In Kranj they traded with cereals, iron and craft products. For people carrying goods over Ljubelj or Jezerski vrh Kranj was the first important stop in Carniola. People of Kranj had to enable unimpeded crossing over the river Sava and Kokra due to extended trading.

Townspeople carried on different trades. The oldest in Kranj is miller’s trade. Since the  15th century craftsmen were organised in guildes.
